Skincare For Men: A Basic Guide to How You Should Take Care of Your Skin
Advertisements these days seem to focus on the side of women’s skin care, leaving men in a guessing game about what they’re supposed to do to keep their skin healthy. So here are the things men need to know when it comes to the skin care game.
Keep it Clean
The first part of your skin care routine should always be to use a cleanser to get all those bad things off your skin. Though it may be tempting to just reach for just any other hand or body soap for this step, your skin is not going to thank you for it later. The skin of the face is drastically different from the skin on your hands or the rest of your body. Using the same soap on your face will leave it feel dried out. Instead, use a cleanser made specifically for your face, or a “non-soap” cleanser.
Shave the Right Way
Surprisingly, most men aren’t completely aware on the right way to shave. Make sure to clean your face first so that bacteria isn’t anywhere near any open pores when you’re shaving. Apply shaving cream of your choice and then shave with the grain of your facial hair. Make sure to use short strokes, avoid repeatedly shaving in the same spots, and rinse your razor with hot water after each of those short strokes.
Maybe you know this already, but you shouldn’t apply too much pressure when shaving. Otherwise, you’ll be gaining some very unwanted ingrown hairs and irritated skin. Once you’re done shaving, rinse your face with cold water to make sure your pores close and no longer susceptible to any bacteria your skin might encounter during the day. Use an aftershave balm that doesn’t contain alcohol to keep your skin moisturized.
Never Forget Moisturizer
Maybe it seems like moisturizing is an unnecessary step, but your skin will thank you a million times over for not skipping it. With all these precautions, there’s still always the chance of dried out skin once you’re done cleansing and shaving your face. Using some sort of moisturizing lotion will keep your skin refreshed and less likely to form the wrinkles, something that even men won’t want to see in their face.
Skincare for men seems to get put on the back burner in the media, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t important. For skin that makes you look years younger, find a cleanser that’s right for you, shave the correct way, and always moisturize afterwards.
